Why Social Media is a Tool

By Ainsley Lovrien

Social Media is one of the biggest parts in people’s lives. Almost all Americans use social media at least a couple times a day. People regularly access a variety of different social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, Snapchat, Tik Tok, and many more. An average person uses social media for most of their life more than socializing, eating, or cleaning themselves. Not only do people use social media for personal reasons, but we also use it to find out what’s happening in the world today. The media is a big influencer and spokesperson for everyone in the world. For example, you can find out what’s happening in Europe by just a click of a button.
The news is a big thing on social media, especially Twitter. A lot of news stories are on twitter, like the election, world conflicts, crime, and many more. The news isn’t the only thing you can find on social media, if you are bored, you can look up funny videos, cooking videos, or tv shows/movies. Netflix is a big provider for social media. Netflix has shows and movies that you can watch whenever you have wifi. You can have it on your TV, phone, and computer. Another social media account people often use is Facebook. The young, old, middle generation use Facebook constantly. It’s one of the biggest companies in the world of social media. People spend hours of their day on Facebook, scrolling through feed, watching videos, or posting about their day. Many people that are on Facebook have debates about politics or share many things about politics/world problems today. There are many times that people get very angry with each other on a Facebook post or comment and some are family members, friends, or community members. Social Media is a big influencer today and we don’t always use it for our personal interest, it’s one of the biggest tools we use today.
