How Dogs Contribute To Our Personal Health

By: Cheyenne Behrends

Have you ever wondered why there are so many more dog people out there than cat people? Dogs share our lives in a way that most other animals can’t. They are so prevalent that it is easy to take their love for granted.

Dogs are extremely friendly and they love human companionship. Your dog waits for you by the door, face smiling and tail wagging, ready to play with you, his best friend. Dogs are loyal and just like wild animals, they respond to a leader which is their owner. Dogs are eager to please you in any way they can. When you are sad, sick, etc. your dog will always remain by your side silently comforting you. Even when you’re happy and excited your dog will always be right next to you and share that happiness. They are also very playful. They love any sort of physical activity such as going for walks, playing fetch, go swimming, and even just running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Yet, dogs can also be very soft and cuddly and ready at anytime for a nice scratch on the back. They can remain calm when necessary and be tolerant of young children who don’t know how to yet be gentle around any type of animal. Having a family dog is such an important step in life that I believe everybody should take. Our dogs are always there for us, day and night, taking part in almost every activity that us humans do. They also play a big part in family life even when the family isn’t at home. They can travel with us in cars no matter where the final destination is. Because they can travel with us, they can be part of our lives in a way that most other companion animals can’t. Some people might say that having one dog would be bad because it might be home alone all the time. Well your solution is to get two dogs. So, when they are home alone they can still play with each other!

Above all else, dogs deserve gentle handling and a huge amount of our time and attention. When we give our love freely to our dogs, we receive their love in return. Dogs truly can be a man’s best friend and we should feel honored to be theirs too.
