Samurai Jack

By Ashten Elliott

One of my favorite shows of all time is Samurai Jack, the art, action, and the story has always made this one of my favorites. The show was created by Gendy Tartavosky in 2001 and ended in 2017 there were four seasons before the creators took a break until finishing the show in 2017. The show itself was a quiet action-oriented show that followed the journey of Samurai Jack attempting to return to the past after being thrown into a dystopian future by Aku. Jack is a quiet thoughtful samurai who is 75 years old and travels looking for a way to get back to his time to slay Aku, Aku is a demonic powerful entity so powerful that the gods fear him and bestow a legendary blade to Jack to slay him. Jack and Aku aren’t the only characters however as the show also has some of the most memorable characters of all time, characters like Sir Rothchild(a speaking dog archeologist), monkey man(a primitive man who teaches Jack how to jump hundreds of feet in the air), and the Scotsman( Jack’s best bro) those are just a few characters. In the fifth season, the show was allowed to be darker as it was on adult swim. In the fifth season, Jack finally returns to the past kills Aku and marries Aku’s daughter who immediately dies(the last season was meh). So this amazing series has to have a board game, I present to you Samurai Jack: Back to the Past. In this game, Jack is trying to get back to the past to slay Aku with the help of his friends. The game has four playable characters (Scotsman, Ashi, Sir Rothchild, and monkey man) this means that you can have a lot of players at one time. The game is played by going around board collecting cards to gain points by defeating the villain, Jack and Aku are also included as NPCs they influence the player's cards and points. Jack also has a sanity meter if it fills everyone's loses. Overall the game is decent it can be fun but gets repetitive quickly, however, the cards and characters are well done and collectible for fans, I would say that if you’re looking for a game it’s not bad but there are better but if you’re a fan of the series it’s a must-have.
